I developed this roaster as a final project for my Heat Transfer class. The principle aim was to calculate the reflectivity, absorptivity, and transmissivity of a standard hot dog. To accomplish this goal, I acquired a parabolic aluminum bowl and determined the focal point through simple geometry. I then measured several variables including, the time it took for a hot dog to fully cook, the reflectivity of the aluminum bowl, and the environmental solar radiation. With this data I was able to accurately calculate all the variables I was seeking. An additional benefit was several quite delicious hot dogs.
